Wireless Sensor Platform Project

Our aim is to design a system that will take measurements from three sensors -we are currently considering a vibration sensor  (an accelerometer) , a light intensity sensor (an LDR), and a temperature sensor (we could use a thermistor), and send these values wirelessly to a server (using WiFi) or to a phone (via SMS or GPRS), along with its current position using a GPS module. It will also have some sort of non-volatile flash memory (we are considering using an SD card at the moment).





We are currently in the midst of designing a prototype board which serves an interface between a GSM/GPS module (the SIM548z) and a PIC18F8722 microcontroller board (which is issued by the University). It will employ a single light sensor (an LDR) and will have a series of MOLEX connectors to allow us to code different sections of the SIM548z separately, so that we can get familiar with the serial interfaces the current GSM/GPS module we've been provided with uses. The PCB schematic for this interface (which we are calling Board One)  is shown below:
